Keynote #2: Integrative Medicine in Practice: Concept to Creation

In this session, Dr. Seely, ND will review the steps and strategies taken to develop a clinic dedicated to the delivery of integrative medicine and complementary cancer care as well as the evaluation of impact and how well it is working. Beginning as an idea for an integrative oncology clinic and research centre, a multidisciplinary group of practitioners and researchers came together to create a holistic, comprehensive, and patient centered model of care. The steps involved for this development included obtaining funding, conducting a feasibility study, gathering the team, marketing and ultimately launching the clinic and then allowing for its evolution. Partnerships, community and clinical champions, community engagement, clinical care and research will all be discussed. The audience will come away with an appreciation as to how integrative medicine can be achieved through the lens of a local example in Ottawa, Canada.
